What became evident across the fair, from kitchens and bathrooms to furniture, was that texture and curves are here to stay. These were not fleeting design moments, but recurring themes seen in beautifully crafted pieces, soft sculptural forms, tactile finishes and layered material palettes.
At Order & Grace Interiors, texture is one of the design elements we use with great intention. It is what allows a coastal home to not only look beautiful, but feel warm, welcoming and deeply comfortable from the moment you walk through the front door.
When layered well, texture creates an immediate sense of ease - the kind of feeling our Elanora Heights clients described so beautifully when they said, “I feel like I am on holiday when I walk through the front door.” This home was later featured in Home Beautiful, and for us, that feeling is always the goal: a home that feels calm, considered and deeply personal.
Texture gives a home warmth, depth and a sense of quiet luxury. Without it, even the most beautifully furnished room can feel flat or unresolved.
Often, when clients ask us to help with their homes, they know something is not quite working, but cannot always identify what is missing. In many cases, it is not one single piece of furniture, one paint colour or one artwork. It is the absence of layering - the lack of natural materials, tactile finishes, softness and subtle contrast that makes a space feel inviting and complete.
Curves play a similar role. A curved sofa, rounded ottoman, arched doorway, sculptural chair or softly profiled piece of joinery can gently break up the straight lines and hard edges found in so many homes. Curves bring softness, movement and a sense of ease to a room, particularly in coastal interiors where we want spaces to feel relaxed, elegant and welcoming.
Texture is what helps transform a house into a home. It might be the warmth of timber flooring underfoot, the softness of a natural wool rug, the relaxed weave of linen, the detail of a timber profile, or the imperfect beauty of handmade ceramics. In coastal Sydney homes, these elements are especially important. They bring softness, comfort and character, while still allowing a space to feel calm, fresh and refined.
At Salone del Mobile in Milan, texture was everywhere and curves were equally present. Together, they were a reminder that materiality, softness and form are not trends, but enduring elements of good design.
And for Order & Grace Interiors, they are very much here to stay!
